Kōwhai is an important native tree for many bird species, and a useful tree to have in your backyard for attracting birds.
Tui and bellbird feed on the nectar of kōwhai flowers, kererū and kaka feast on the leaves at times when other food may be scarce.
During July we will be giving away over 200 native trees suitable for urban backyards, including kōwhai, these will be available to be picked up from the Depot Artspace from 14 – 25 July, in conjunction with the Forest has the Blues project #foresthastheblues
